The power of Islam, throughout the world, is thought to be succumbing slowly with the influx of the West and inevitable globalization. These changes have urged clerics all over the world to put out drastic fatwas for the betterment of the Muslim Ummah. However, sometimes the fatwas are challenged by followers and denounced completely.

A video, that has been going viral on social media, shows just that. A Muslim cleric can be seen urging people to snatch phones and internet facilities from their daughters, as it is prohibited in Islam.

According to the cleric, cell phones and internet are the basis for any wrongdoing that is committed by a woman. He says that the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) urged people not to provide their daughters with the tafseer of Surah-e-Yousuf, because it contained immoral activities that were committed at the time by the Egyptian woman.

Some people on social media have claimed that no such hadith is present and that the cleric had not sighted a believable source. The cleric urges people by chanting slogans such as “Beti konsa businessman hai jo ap ne usse mobile diya hai?” and “Usne konsa karobaar kerna hai jo internet per bithaya hai?”

Before making such statements, the cleric should know that Muslim women all over the world run profitable businesses using internet and cell phones as their preferred medium, where transactions are made without the owner and the customer having to come face to face.

The cleric bases his argument on the fact that parents who give phones and internet facilities to their children are to be blamed if their daughters talk to men on their phones or the internet. He then urges parents to ‘snatch’ their phones and replace them with rosaries.

The cleric concludes his fatwa by stating that women should be stopped from going out in the public as well and should be forced to sit on the ‘Jaye Namaz’.
