Sadly, the most common word in Pakistani news these days is rape. It seems that the country has finally fallen prey to the worst vice in a society, something that our neighbors India have been battling for a while.

Before Zainab, Asma and countless other children, three daughters of a Christian man from Sialkot were raped (sexually assaulted) by members of his own family. The man still waits for justice outside the Lahore Press Club, even though months have passed.

Civil society activist Muhammad Jibran Nasir highlighted the incident after meeting Khurram Shehzad Victor, the father of the three molested girls. Khurram has six daughters, out of whom 3 were molested by members of his extended family. When Khurram filed a report against them, he had to go through more pain than before, as the same people abducted one of the tree molested girls.

Being a member of the minority, Khurram is a simple and poor man who just wants the return of his daughter along with justice for what happened to them. Initially, the police would not file an FIR for his daughter’s kidnapping, but due to his protest, the court forced an FIR. However, no progress has been made by the Sialkot police in the particular case.

Khurram currently lives, sleeps and eats outside the Lahore Press Club. However, since Jibran’s intervention in the case, Commissioner Chaudhry Shafiq of National Commission of Human Rights took notice of the matter, while the Child Protection Bureau offered to provide shelter for his family while they protested.

We need to speak out in favor of Khurram Shehzad Victor and his little girls who were raped. We also need to support him, pressurizing the authorities for the safe return of his young daughter who has been kidnapped after the initial sexual assault. Living in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, acts of anarchy and lawlessness should be tolerated anymore.
