With the Pakistan-China Economic Corridor on its way, the progress and development will not come without a price for Pakistan. Even though China has invested $62 billion into Pakistan, all will not flourish, and Pakistan will have to battle many new plagues.
On Wednesday, Karachi police arrested two Chinese nationals from near Fawara Chowk, opposite to Zainab Market. Their crime? Stealing data from customers at an ATM machine through a skimming device.
An ATM skimming device is like identity theft for debit cards. Thieves use hidden electronics to steal the personal information stored on your card and record your PIN number to access all that hard-earned cash in your account. That’s why skimming takes two separate components to work.
Karachi police recovered ATM skimming devices and other equipment from the Chinese nationals’ possession. The culprits had been on the move around the bank for a while, before bank employees noticed their moves through CCTV monitoring and apprehended them at the right time.
“There has been a sharp rise in ATM fraud in Karachi, and the devices that the two men were carrying are similar to the devices used in other cases,” said SP Naeem.

With the rising influx of Chinese in Pakistan, our country will have to take drastic measures as a lot of our tech-firewall system has gone obsolete in the international world. In every race, there are good and bad people — and for the antagonists of China, Pakistan is a perfect opportunity to run their black businesses rampant.
As CPEC blooms, Pakistan will have to face worst scenarios that are unseen and unprecedented. Our LEAs and other intelligence agencies need to be on their toes, so that no hustler from China is able to harm our serendipity.
