The National Database and Registeration Authority (NADRA), is the soul of the people of the country. To be accepted as a Pakistani, every man/woman must have a national identity card (NIC), which is provided by the governing body on proof of birth and livelihood inside Pakistan.
For years, we’ve heard people slating NADRA for being incompetent and corrupt, stating that there is no order present in any center of the country and that whoever has influence can get their work done, but the common man, will always suffer.
The vigilant chairman of NADRA, Mr. Usman Y. Mubin was re-appointed as the top boss of the authority, in the first week of February. Recently, pictures of Chairman Usman Mubin have gone viral on social media, where the top official can be seen visiting centers of NADRA as a common man, standing in the long lines of people in Karachi.
On visiting different centers, due to the negligence of the NADRA staff, Usman Mubin fired one female staff member, while suspending two male members as well. The step was taken after thousands of complains by common people who suffered at NADRA centers on a day to day basis, with some officials either asking for bribes, or just being arrogant and not helping the common people.
While visiting the NADRA Mega Center, Usman Mubin asked people what sort of troubles they face. Later, he himself, applied for a national identity card through proper channel, but was dealt arrogantly by employees. On this, he fired two people.
On reaching the NADRA center in Liaquatabad, Usman Mubin found out that a lady officer denied a man his NIC because he had come from Larkana. She said that he needed to go and make his NIC from Larkana only. However, Usman Mubin clearly stated that any Pakistani can get their NIC made from any center across the country, as the place did not matter.
This vigilant behavior and acts of the incumbent NADRA chairman have widely been welcomed by people on social media, who say that the country needs more people like Mr. Usman, who are true to their work.
Pakistan needs more people like NADRA chairman Mr. Usman Mubin. However, to each his own. Nobody can force an officer to be vigilant and diligent to their duties, but one can always hope for the best.
