April 3rd, 2018 has been declared as “Punish a Muslim Day”. First of all, let’s all allow that to sink in and take a moment to pray for the world and humanity and for the single strand that remains of it.

As a Muslim girl from a Muslim household where my parents raised three daughters and one son equally; as free-willed, brave, independent, honest and principled people who were allowed to explore religion as well as the world we live in in a balanced manner, I feel disgusted to see the way in which Muslims are looked down on as if they are of a different species. While I understand there are other faiths in the world that are also targeted; I speak for my own as of now.

As a Muslim, do not be afraid of any given date or any threats. If Muhammad (SAW), the Prophet who preached the religion of Islam and Allah’s most prized human, was targeted centuries ago and was humiliated, scorned and hurt by passerby but still managed to walk with his head held high with dignity in spite of threats being all around him – we as Muslims can be brave and should carry the same strength and faith. We must be firm in knowing that we have done nothing wrong and that our religion and we stand for nothing but peace and harmony.

Allah gives His most precious soldiers the hardest battles because He knows we can fight through them and He would like to strengthen our faith and connection with Him through such trials. So my fellow Muslims, stand strong and pray to Allah for Prophet Muhammad (SAW)’s level of strength and composure. Do not hide away in your homes. Do not be afraid. Do not be ashamed. You are just as human as any other.
