Islam, considered to be perfect among all other religions, works in a system and a protocol. Just as for every action there’s an equal and opposite reaction, Islam too brings forth elements to counter negativity that may prevail in our lives. The scourge of evil-eye (nazr-e-bad) and black magic too, has counters, in the form of ayats and duas.

These are the short ayats and duas you need to recite in order to protect yourself and the people close to you.

First and foremost, the narration of Allah Almighty’s name

It was narrated from al-Haarith al-Ash’ari that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Allah commanded Yahya ibn Zakariyah (PBUH) five things to follow and to enjoin upon the Children of Israel… and he commanded them to remember Allaah, and the likeness of that is a man who was being pursued by the enemy until he reached a strong fortress in which he found protection; similarly, a man cannot find protection from Shaitan except by remembering Allaah…”

“Whoever recites ten verses from Soorat-ul-Baqarah at night time the Shaitan cannot enter the house that evening until the morning, (i.e ) the first four verses of Sooratul-Baqarah, Aayat-ul-Kursee, and the two verses after it, in addition to the three last verses of Soorat-ul-Baqarah beginning with: {…To Allah belongs what is in the heavens…}”
