After the sea-view shooting incident, which brought upon the death of young Zafir Zuberi, Karachi police had banned racing at the famous Devil’s Point in Phase-8. Due to the incident, the police also kept a heavy-handed check on racing cars in the city.
A few days after the unfortunate shooting, police had stopped a supercar, an Audi R8 on sea-view, which led to a confrontation between the owner and the police, which was recorded on camera. The owner of the car was Sindh High Court’s lawyer, Khwaja Shams-Ul-Islam.
The lawyer had resorted to misbehaving with the police, who firmly let him go after a few minutes due to the strength of authority in his tone. However, the video resurfaced a few days earlier on social media, leading to the arrest of Mr. Islam, on charges of misbehaving with the police and also using a model number instead of a number plate on his car.
Khwaja Shams-Ul-Islam can be seen in the video arguing and misbehaving with police officials who were conducting routine checking on Dr. Abdul Sattar Edhi road. Ever since his arrest, Pakistanis on social media have remained divided as to which party was wrong in the snap-checking incident.
The lawyer community is pouring in support after Mr. Islam’s arrest, who can be seen sitting suited, inside a lock-up, after a detailed investigation by the local DSP. Update: The lawyer has been released from police custody and is currently with his family at his house.
