Do you remember the young woman who had to come to Pakistan from Dubai to see her ill father? Yes, we’re talking about Samia Shahid, the British-born woman who was raped and murdered in Pakistan.

One of the most twisted stories in recent times, Samia Shahid was previously married to Muhammad Shakeel, a resident of Pakistan and a friend of her father.

The couple’s marriage started to succumb, that is when Samia Shahid decided to divorce her husband Muhammad Shakeel. She later on went and married Mukhtaz Kazam, her second husband, and according to her employers and friends, she was very happy.

The couple moved from Leeds to Dubai and was settled there. However, Samia did not know that her father had remorse over her second marriage and was going to do something that nobody ever expected.

Staging his illness, Samia’s father Muhammad Shahid called her to Jehlum from Dubai, as he was ‘going to die’. However, when Samia reached Pakistan, a few days later, was raped and murdered by her ex-husband Muhammad Shakeel. Samia’s own father helped getting her murdered in the name of honor.

The BBC Two was going to air a whole documentary on the issue titled Murder For Love, but the release is now going to be delayed after the ironic death of Samia Shahid’s father. Not only did his father get her murdered, but he tried his best to hide the issue at hand and use all his influence to save his former son-in-law Muhammad Shakeel.

Samia Shahid  worked as a beautician was from MP Ms. Naz Shah’s constituency in the UK. MS Shah campaigned and demanded from the authorities in Pakistan that they commission an independent autopsy for the death of Samia Shahid. But no such step was taken by the country.

Initially, it was being thought that Samia died due to heart-attack. However, investigation later revealed that a lot of foul play was involved in her death. After Samia’s father tried to keep the case in Jehlum, prosecutors were successful in transferring the case to Lahore High Court, where the decision is now pending.

The death of Samia’s father is tragic, but at the same time it is ironic. A man who sacrificed his daughter’s life just for the sake of his honor and that of his son-in-law surely does not deserve all the respect. The world, especially the UK, currently waits for justice in the Samia Shahid murder case.
