Students, the youth of the country, are to take its command in the future. They are the future of the nation. In the development of a state, students are most important because they are responsible for the development and changing the social behavior of society.
In our society, people do not focus on other fields of study and mostly want their children to become a doctor or an engineer. Although these are the best professions but neglecting other areas of life is not good. Today if you ask children a question, that what you want to become in future, they will immediately answer it. Usually, girls answers this question by saying doctor and boys answer it by saying engineering.
This shows that we have taught our children that there are only two professions, doctor, and engineer. This approach has to be changed. In universities students usually get confused while getting admission in a particular subject and sometimes end up choosing the wrong subjects. There is a need to arrange career and student counseling summits in universities during the time period when admissions are usually held.
These counseling programs will serve helpful for students and will guide them to get admission into the program where they can learn through enthusiasm and interest. In many universities of Pakistan, it becomes a trend among students that conferences and seminars are just wastage of time and energy.
Student counseling centers established in many universities have the responsibility to encourage students towards conferences and seminars. Not every university has a student counseling center and not every university allows every student to attend conferences. There is a need to change this norm.
In most of the universities of Pakistan where student counseling centers exist, no professionally trained personnel for counseling is hired because usually, they belong to the administrative wing and what these counseling centers need are good psychologists and motivational speakers.
