Traffic police, compared to other restricting law enforcing agencies of Pakistan, has always been compromised when it comes to getting respect. For the common man, you and I, the traffic police is not really police at all, but just officials who spend their whole day in the Sun and dirt, wasting their time.

When it comes to the traffic police authority’s diligence, the way they do their work, clear traffic, make sure there are no accidents and everyone travels safe, they deserve more than the respect we give them. Imagine standing in the heat all day, inhaling all the dirt and smoke, and having random people curse at you while they go, would you and I be able to do that?

The traffic police in Islamabad wants to change the way people look at these officials, and they have started an awareness campaign showcasing how they care about us, which is why they spend their whole day in one place.

Traffic police officers of Islamabad held up placards, which said “We Are Here Because We Care” – every placard held up, on its back side, held a message for the citizens. These messages were about speed control, driving safely, wearing helmets, not using our phones, not breaking signals and staying in our lanes.

People were amused by the out-of-the-box approach and snapped pictures so they could upload them on social media. The police officers too posed in style, while media too arrived for coverage of the awareness campaign. The Islamabad Traffic Police, officially, too released a video that showed glimpses of the awareness campaign and its main reason.

#BecauseWeCare, the Islamabad Traffic Police campaign is a step in the right direction for Pakistan, as stakeholders of state have started to know their importance in communication with the general public. Campaigns like these create an emotional attachment between the officials and the common man, which goes a long way. The use of social media to kick-start the campaign also helped out in creating awareness.
