A road bus hostess shot dead by the co-worker in Faisalabad, CM Punjab took immediate notice and the accused is under arrest. But does that suffice? Hundreds of working women have lost their lives and or otherwise, thousands have suffered physically, at work by the hands of employers, co-workers and none the less, their own family members.

These women striving to support their family, earning bread and butter, full of aspirations of better and secure future, some have taken all the risk by leaving the premises of their homes. Their role beside the well being of their families has been accepted as the important second wheel in the journey of development of nation’s economy.

With the increasing monetary needs, the number of working women is increasing every day and with it, the need for safe work environment is more pressing than ever before. One Suo Motu notices for CM or the worthy highest of the court, won’t bring any in these dastardly offenses against these women.

The general public still takes these hard-working women as breakers of the social norms, characteristically immoral and rebellious to the family, which not only faulters the Islamic social safety and protection awarded to women. The menfolk turns into the pack of wolves presumably taking these as easy prey.

The ideology of moral correctness only within the confines of walls of houses isn’t just a stunt to prolong this slavery but also makes default adjudication about those, who are forced to work to survive. This has led to many sad incidents of physical abuse, that sometimes exacerbates the loss of costly lives.

This absolution of immorality attached to the working women should be quelled. Those pass the verdict and treating these women with anything other than respect should not enjoy any impunity. If people don’t get saner right now and embark on the idea of respect and protecting the worthy contributors, this havoc might break into their houses and the voyeurism will be for others. And we will be left writing only the obituary.
