My wife and I recently got married and were invited by my best friend to dinner at a Chinese Restaurant near us. After spending some quality time, we headed out and were on the crossroad outside Generation in our car, figuring out which route we should take home.
I was looking out in both directions and this guy in a Honda City zoomed past us, accelerating without looking and thinking, without seeing if there was a car crossing the intersection or not. The guy almost hit my side mirror, missing it by inches.
I did absolutely nothing because we had just been married and with my life partner sitting next to me, I did not want to engage in a situation where we ended up fighting or quarreling. Going forth, as we reached the main Boulevard, the Honda City returned. This time the guy pulled his car right in front of us at full speed, I had to jam my breaks just to stop!
He came out of his car and tried to open my door. Of course, the doors were locked, so in anger, he broke the side mirror. He was too drunk to handle himself and his eyes were popping out. I had to do something, my wife was with me and I had to take care of her. So I pushed the door open with full power and remembered a movie scene — I put my phone to my ear and said TANGO VICTOR 191 — I need quick response force ASAP — Officer off duty has been targetted by a civilian.
As soon as I said this, the man ran like a dog back to his car and got away. It was quick thinking that helped me out, otherwise, who knows what a drunk guy could do to normal civilians? What if we fought and he had a gun? This harassment was uncalled for. With incidents like these openly happening in Lahore, it seems that no place in Pakistan will be left safe for families.
