On Thursday, April 18, 2019, Prime Minister Imran Khan gambled with major aces as he swept through the cabinet and shuffled several key players including Asad Umar, the former Finance Minister of the state…

While the chances of Mr. Asad Umar’s removal were already on the cards, the cabinet experienced some surprise jabs with the replacement of Fawad Chaudhry as the Information Minister, Shehryar Afridi as the Minister of Internal Affairs and Chaudhry Ghulam Ahmad Sarwar as the Petroleum Minister.

Although the Tabdeeli government inherited a wobbly economy, Khan’s cabinet is under the pump for not living up to the high stakes it had promised during the 2018 elections campaign…

With the appointment of two more Aides from Gen. (R) Pervez Musharraf’s cabinet, it seems the Prime Minister had some serious thought process before using the ink… We can say that the cabinet now presents an image much similar to that of Musharraf’s era!

Stop it if you can…

Since the beginning of 2018, the Pakistani Rupee has lost 30 percent of its value, fueling a spike in inflation.

Dr. Abdul Hafeez Sheikh, who had served as minister for privatization during Gen Musharraf’s tenure, had also been nominated as finance minister by the PPP government that came into existence after 2008 elections, will now head the government’s economic team as Finance Advisor to the PM. In Pakistan it is common for financial experts to be given the title of “adviser”, rather than a federal minister, to head the finance ministry when they are not a sitting member of parliament.

Fawad Chaudhry who used to be on the frontline to deny categorically about any possible shuffling of the cabinet will now be looking after the affairs of Science and Technology.

Time will prove whether a wise decision or not but now the PTI government has decided to appoint a full-fledged Minister to take the interior affairs for which the charge is handed over to Brig. (R.) Ijaz Ahmed Shah who was previously serving the parliamentary affairs for the same government.

Boots are marching through…

Brig. Ijaz, former Director General IB  is also known to be a close comrade of the former President Pervez Musharraf and his recent appointment by Imran Khan has stirred new controversy because, before her assassination, Benazir Bhutto accused him to have hatched a conspiracy to take her down.

Shehryar Afridi who was known to have handled his previous portfolio with success has also been given a new responsibility of minister for states and frontier regions — replacing Ali Amin Gandapur.

The Tabdeeli wave is here in full swing!

Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan has taken over Fawad Chaudhry as the new Minister of Information and Broadcast. She had served on the same desk under President Asif Ali Zardari. Fridous played a pivotal role in PTI General Election Campaign after she quit Pakistan People’s Party in 2018.

Ghulam Sarwar who was previously serving the ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources has also been changed and now given the responsibilities of Minister Aviation Sector. Nadeem Babar is the new special assistant on the petroleum division.

Medicines or Gold, what are we really buying!?

Zafarullah Mirza who had formerly worked as the coordinator of Public Health, Innovation and Intellectual Property at the World Health Organisation headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, is the new special assistant to the PM on National Health Services and Health Minister Amir Mehmood Kiyani services might not be needed anymore as he is already facing severe criticism due to the sudden hike in prices of medicine.

From Back to the Pavilion to Back to the Crease…
