Being Muslims, the faith in Islam starts with two things above all, which are accepting Allah Almighty as the only God and Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) as his final messenger. Following Sunnah, which are deeds of the Prophet, is something every Muslim needs to do; this includes the different food items Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) preferred using every day.

These food items are thought to be beneficial to the human body and even to the soul to a certain extent. Using these food items while preparing food counts as work of Sunnah and their results can be seen in the long run. Here’s a list of all the food items Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) loved using.

1. Barley (Joo)

Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) said that Barley is essential for humans, it is good for fever, especially when cooked in the form of hot soup.

One of Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W)’s favorite food items were dates. Found in large numbers in Saudi Arabia, the Prophet would eat dates whenever he could. He said that a house without dates is no house and dates are also essential during childbirth.

According to scientific research, figs (injeer) are good for constipation and piles. The Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) also labeled figs as the fruit of paradise.

“Grapes purify the blood, provide vigor and strengthen the kidneys, making them clear,” said Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). On top of the benefits, the fruit is one of the sweetest in its taxonomy.

A drug for many, honey in its purest form acts as a multi-purpose item. When mixed with hot water, it can cure extreme diarrhea. When mixed with pepper and ginger, it acts as a relief for cough and mucus.

Everybody in this world knows the benefits of milk, it is the first and foremost source of energy. The Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) said, “Milk wipes away heat from your heart.. just as you wipe the sweat off your eyebrows.”

According to the saying of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), mushroom serves as a cure for eyes, along with acting as a source of birth control, when needed.

The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, “vinegar is excellent for skin and hair. It delays aging and serves as ice on fire on a flaming stomach.”

9. Pomegranate (Anaar)

Anaar or pomegranate, as per the Prophet (PBUH), cleanses the human soul of all evils for at least 40 days. It is also one of the sweetest fruits in its hierarchy.

“No woman who eats melon during pregnancy will fail to give birth to a child that has good character,” said the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
