This man is Canadian Immigration Minister, Ahmed Hussen. Originally of Somalian descent, he was invited by HUM TV to speak at their award show (The HUM TV awards). He came up on stage during the distribution of awards and spoke about Pakistan, its elections and Imran Khan’s victory.

According to him, Pakistan had an “amazing” election. When he heard Imran Khan’s speech, he was so impressed by it that he immediately stopped what he was doing and looked up the transcript for it. “Every point he made in that speech, we [Canada] agree with.”

He spoke in particular about Khan’s aim to strengthen public services by paying more attention to government owned institutes for public welfare. Hussen also pointed out that Imran Khan’s fight against corruption would open Pakistan up for investors, helping Canada find another market they could trade with.

“Canada is a country that believes in diversity”. The collaboration between Pakistan and Canada would not be a race, but a steady march to the top while alongside each other, Ahmed said. To him, Pakistani Canadians would always play a great part in making Canada the country that it is.

He concluded his brief speech by shouting a slogan that every Pakistani knows- Pakistan Zindabad.

This speech comes as no surprise. Canada has a huge population of overseas Pakistani people, both for the purposes of education and employment. Stronger ties between the two countries will improve lives for them and for Pakistan’s economy too.

Say what one may, Khan’s victory has had at least one good, definite outcome for us. Let’s hope that this is just the first of many more opportunities for Paksitan’s economy (and thereby our future) to improve.
