The QS World University Rankings 2019 has included seven Pakistani universities into the prestigious annual index of global universities. It is an annual publication of university rankings by Quacquarrelli Symonds (QS).

The Pakistan Institute Of Engineering And Applied Sciences (PIEAS) has ranked has been ranked as Pakistan’s highest ranking university at 397 while National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) stands at 471 followed by Quaide Azam University (QAU).

1. Pakistan Institute Of Engineering And Applied Sciences – PIEAS, Islamabad: 397

One of the oldest universities of Pakistan, Pakistan Institute Of Engineering And Applied Sciences (PIEAS) has kept its standard high to be one of the front-runners in the field of engineering. PIEAS has been included in the top ten universities of Pakistan by HEC earlier this month.

2. National University of Sciences And Technology – NUST, Islamabad: 417

NUST is a public university with the main campus in Islamabad and other satellite campuses in different cities of Pakistan. In 2016, NUST is ranked among the 50 leading young universities globally by Times. And NUST achieved another milestone earlier this month by standing at third position among top ten universities of Pakistan.

3. Quaid-i-Azam University – QAU, Islamabad: 551-560

The institute holds a wide variety of departments, giving students a vast choice of fields to experiment with. QAU is known for it’s best faculty members and you know when you meet a QAU student; their demeanor is just different.

4. Lahore University of Management Sciences – LUMS, Lahore: 701-750

The Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) was founded in 1984 and now in 2019, it stands among the topmost universities of Pakistan.

5. Comsats Institute of Information Technology – CUI, Islamabad: 751-800

The university was established in 1998 by the Commission on Science and Technology for Sustainable Development in the South (COMSATS) and named as COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT) but later on, it was renamed as COMSATS University of Islamabad (CUI). The varsity stands on the sixth position according to the HEC rankings.

6. University of Engineering & Technology – UET, Lahore: 801-1000

UET was established in 1921 and at that time, the institution was named as ‘Mughulpura Technical College’. In 2019, the university offers courses of study in two disciplines only – Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering.

7. University of the Punjab – PU, Lahore: 801-1000

The University of Punjab, commonly known as Punjab University was the fourth university to be established by the British colonials in the subcontinent India. Due to the efforts of eminent educationists, Punjab University stands at the second position according to HEC rankings.

It can be seen that all the seven universities are Lahore or Islamabad based, no university from K-P, Sindh, and Baluchistan has made to the global rankings.

Top Three Universities Of The World

The top three universities this year are Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Stanford University and Harvard University respectively. The trio grabbed the top three spots just as they had in 2018, followed by California Institute of Technology (Caltech) in the fourth spot. The only change in the top five sees University of Oxford (5th) overtaking the University of Cambridge, which has now been relegated to the sixth spot.
