We live in a globalized world where communication is not a problem anymore. The rise in social media platforms and apps that make communication easy are ever-rising. These apps have affected the world in both ways – positive and negative – and gave rise to cyber crimes. Unfortunately, many in Pakistan don’t know about cyber crimes.

In Quetta, Pakistan, a case has been reported to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). Reportedly, culprit, Siraj-Ud-Din, a local bus driver cemented a friendship with one of his passengers. When they got close, Siraj made an illicit relationship with the girl and took some of her pictures and recorded videos. Later on, the culprit sent the recorded stuff to the in-laws of the lady, and she got divorced.

Women in Pakistan have to go through a lot

There are several incidents in which women have been blackmailed, tortured or even got killed. The sad part is, in cases where someone harasses a woman, she does not get the help of her own family. Moreover, she fears if she tells somebody of what she is going through, it would be a disgrace for the whole family.

It is not the only case reported to cybercrime but dozens! In the last month, FIA caught a man in Faisalabad for posting unethical pictures of her former class fellow on social media. In April, FIA apprehended a blackmailer, Zubair from Lahore for blackmailing a girl over her immoral pictures.

If one looks closely, one may find the modern technology has adversely affected the Pakistani society. The cases mentioned above are nothing, as much of the cases have never reported. People fear to take any legal action against the culprits, owing to the esteem element. In the country, most of the people use smartphones in a destructive manner rather than a positive way.

We need a change!

We seriously need a change, change in our norms. Parents need to understand the necessity of sex education for their children. Parents should frankly discuss things with their children so they must not go off track. Besides, civil society along with media should educate the masses about the wrong and right use of technology. Unfortunately
The lady from Quetta had the guts to launch a Fir against Siraj. Hopefully, all the victims, facing any such related instance shall report it to the FIA cyber crime wing.
