The first digit on your CNIC represents the province you belong to. 1 is for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. 2 is for Fata. 3 is for Punjab. 4 is for Sindh. 5 is for Balochistan and 6 is for Islamabad, the Federal Capital.

The second digit represents your Division and the third digit represents your District. The fourth digit represents your ‘Tehsil’, however, if there’s no specific Tehsil in the District, the number usually is 0. The fifth digit represents your Local Union Council.

After the dash, the next 7 letters represent your Data Code that is present at every Nadra Office. This is your personal allocated number being a resident and national of Pakistan. Within these 7 digits is present all the information about you and your family, the one that is also present on your B-form.

After the second dash, the final digit represents suggests your gender, whether you are a man or a woman. If the CNIC 13-digit code ends on an Odd number, say 1-3-5-7-9, then it means you’re a male. However, if the CNIC code ends on an Even number, 2-4-6-8, it suggests that you’re a female.
