One of the biggest vices that run rampant in Pakistani society, is that of acid attacks. Thousands of women have faced sanguine fate due to the plethora of acid attacks in the country. Egoistic patriarchal men, when not given what they want, ruin the lives of beautiful women in a matter of seconds.

As per Javed Akram, the Vice Chancellor of University of Health Sciences (UHS) in Lahore, most people who suffer from burn/acid related injuries do not make it and end up giving up on life. The deaths that occur are usually from the water of the body and its expanding salts. After the natural skin burns, the layer underneath is exposed to germs.

In order to save the patient’s life, human skin has to be replaced, so it does not develop any infections. Pakistan, before this revelation, had been importing skin, which costs almost 10 times more than it being developed locally. The country had not been developing the ‘Cellular Drum Matrix’ – the biological regimen of human skin.

However, all that has changed, and now, Pakistani doctors are preparing their own version of the human skin. Previously, a square inch of the imported skin cost over Rs. 1 lakh, but now, due to local development, the same space can be purchased for under Rs. 1000 – indeed, local scientists and medical experts have come a long way.

Dr. Rauf Ahmed is preparing artificial skin in a laboratory established at the Burn Center of Jinnah Hospital in Lahore. He has done his PhD in Malcolm Biology. Speaking to the BBC, he said: «that artificial sizes of two types of skin can be altered. Made of a biological and second synthesis (chemical synthesis).  The harm of the orthopedic skin is that it is difficult to connect with its human cells, and it is likely to be damaged after being taken.»

The skin is being prepared through chemicals and other solubles. In addition, cow and buffalo skin is also being used. The reason the skin is so cheap is that the material being used is not expensive, and the doctors are trying their best to limit the cost as much as they can.

Doctors, however, believe that the ‘import mafia’ that works on the human skin will try to tether and limit their study as much as they can. If a cheaper alternative is introduced in the market, a lot of plastic surgeons and the importers of the human skin will feel the effects of it.
