We know Federal Minister of Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry announced early in May about constituting a committee that would use modern cutting edge technology for moonsighting along with devising an Islamic calendar for the next five years; hoping this would end sighting disputes in Pakistan bringing everyone on the same page.

On Sunday, May 27, 2019, Fawad Chaudhry tweeted about the launch of first moon sighting website (www.pakmoonsighting.pk ) and the promised first Islamic Calendar of Pakistan. Ruet-e-Hilal Committee opposed the idea before and they created a ruckus now as well. For the longest time, Pakistan has been following Mufti-Muneeb-Ur-Rehman’s verdicts on moon sightings and although several people still choose to follow him, a large number of Pakistanis are approving the stance Ministry of Science and Technology has taken.

An Android application is also in the works and will enable Pakistanis to sight the moon on their smartphones

The federal minister informed about an android app that will be available on Play Store sometime on Monday 27th of May. This is definitely a great step towards advancement in tech and science. Concerning religious bodies that are disapproving of the progress, Fawad Ch said there is no need of Ruet-e-Hilal committee.

He argued that most of the Muslim countries have no such religious bodies and stated that UAE too has decided to end theirs. He continued saying that the committee is opposing as if using technology is for this particular purpose is haram, if so then using binoculars should not be valid as well; the use of the naked eye to sight the moon should suffice for them.

According to the new Hijri Calendar, Eid falls on the 5th of June while Eid-ul-Adha falls on August 12

Pakistan always struggling to celebrate Eid on one day can finally rejoice as Eid will be celebrated on the 5th June across Pakistan, although we cannot guarantee KPK will accept this calendar, most likely not. However, Pakistan has definitely made great progress as there is a dire need for technological breakthroughs along with the mindsets that also need refreshing.

Pakistanis are delighted over the progress and are congratulating Fawad Chaudhry for fulfilling the initiative

Thankful to Fawad for the scientific approach towards the most conflicted matter in Pakistan.

Hoping the ‘Mullahs’ will leave the issue and let Pakistan celebrate one Eid.

Fawad Ch has it all covered. He has announced at the Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research Laboratories Complex about establishing 1,500 science schools in every province.

The launched calendar and moon sighting website has given several hopes of Eid controversies coming to an end once and for all.

It wouldn’t be a surprise to see a divide as there are still several people that prefer the religious clerics’ ruling but hopefully, the conflict will subside. Which side would you pick and why? Let us know in the comment section below.
