Pakistan is one of the most unpredictable countries in the world. We can go from cold-heart stone to a melting candle in a matter of seconds. Ever since social media established itself in Pakistan, people have been using it as a tool to help others as well.

One Pakistani recently took to social media and put the a story he witnessed the other day. This is what he had to say:

«On 4th Jan at 1:30 PM at Karsaz road while going towards my office, I saw an old man asking for a lift. His appearance make me to stop my car without any second thought.

I opened the door and let him in. On our way I asked “Baba where are you going”. He said, I am going to home better if you can drop me near Gora Qabristan so that I can take bus easily.

Upon asking, he told me that “My name is Abdul Sattar and I am 80 years old. 3 years ago I and my wife came to Karachi from a small town Haripur Hazara. I was dexterous in making and selling Peshawari Sandle which was the only way for me to win bread for me and my spouse. Few months back I lost my ability to see properly and could not continue my work. But son we have to do something to feed ourself so i decided to sell everything related to my profession and had an operation of my eyes from collected amount. Now Allhumdulillah, i can see now properly”.

I asked “Where are your kids”
He said “Puttar meri koye oulad nahi” ( I do not have any kids )”.

I asked “What you do for living now”?

He said “ Nowdays I am doing daily wage job of Rs 250. Each day Me and my wife save 50 Rs and buy food from remaining 200 Rs. The saving make us enable to pay the rent of our home which is 1400 Rs per month”.

He further said “Its very difficult to live with 200 Rs per day. I want to restart my Sandle cart for which I have asked people to borrow me some amount which I will return to them in agreed days but due to my age they are not putting their trust on me. Some of the people were agreed to give the amount on interest, which i have regretted. Weather will be cold again, house holder asking for rent which has already been delayed”.

It make me feel like 50 Rs which are not even worth for us while giving tips and this old man save it daily for rent. Salute to his integrity that in this age he is still asking to borrow the amount rather than begging like others.

Meanwhile we reached to our destination. I stopped my car and on my request he received some amount from me which was sufficient for his monthly rent and feeding his family for few days. His snap is attached for further help.

Further we are planning as follow; Warm clothes and blanket: Amount arranged. Yearly rent for him:  1400 x 12 = 16,800 PKR Tools, material for making Sandle and cart = 15,000 PKR. Requirement Total 31,800 PKR.»

Ever since the post went up on Facebook, people have been commenting and sharing the news in the figure of thousands. People feel an automatic emotional attachment with the old man and want to help him sustain his life, so he does not have to see more hardships than the ones he has already seen.
