The world is running out of nonrenewable resources such as fossil fuels, and in such a condition, humanity is in a desperate need to find other sources of energy. Innovation and research is the only way to secure the future of transportation. Add to the that the huge amount of greenhouse gasses emitted from the vehicles which contribute to global warming and climate change, the urgent need for fuel-efficient cars becomes very apparent.

To drive forward the research, every year an international competition called the Shell Eco-Marathon, is held. It challenges students around the world to design, build, and drive the most energy-efficient car possible in the three annual events in Asia, USA & Europe. Individual teams hit the asphalt with their self-built vehicles and compete in terms of fuel efficiency. The goal is to cover the maximum distance with the least amount of fuel consumption. Next, to Shell Eco-Marathon competition will take place in Singapore in March 2018. The competition focuses on the practical design of cars and their efficiency.

Students from PIEAS have participated in previous SEM competitions and won awards. In SEM 2015, the Urban Concept vehicle of Team Innova was awarded the third most fuel-efficient car in Asia. Team Innova is the only team from Pakistan who has ever won top position in this competition.

Team INNOVA is scheduled to participate in the SEM Asia 2018 on behalf of PIEAS and will be targeting both on-track and off-track awards. The team consists of diverse participants, all passionate about automotive technology and innovation. INNOVA’s car, Markhor (Urban Concept-Gasoline category), is being designed to achieve a fuel efficiency of 150+km/l.

This year, Team Innova intends to maintain the tradition and make the nation proud. But more importantly, Team Innova intends to educate the public about the use of more fuel-efficient cars and transport systems with minimum carbon footprint. Because only together can we work for a better and greener future. So, please help Team Innova spread the message of a pollution free Earth, and sign the pledge to reduce fuel usage here.
