Plastic Free Food Industry – A Dream Come True!

It almost makes me a round trip of 5kms to bring milk which is much better than the quality available normally, although it is not pure. The vendor himself claims that he has added a little bit of water; leave alone the injection (oxytocin) and other harmful additives which he doesn’t talk about. And I am more than sure that the apparent color and quality owes to the detergent and starch added.

And after knowing all this me and my family consumes it. Dairy industry today is the hub of adulteration, animal cruelty and global warming. Now, imagine if this fake milk disappears; a staggering 80% of the total available. Can we make it go away?

Yes a group of students from UOG has the answer. These young entrepreneurs are working on a startup that is the answer to all our woes. Call it the environmental crusade of the century;agricofarms.com  based in Sialkot is all set to launch their startup campaign this February and are hopeful to start their operations by the end of this year.

Agrico, with a lot of firsts, is the first in Pakistan to have taken up the UNs Sustainability Development Goals and embedded them into a real business model. The focus lies on three basic areas that require attention and they call them areas of innovation; Sustainable Agriculture, Zero Adulteration & Securing agricultural lands. The model ensures the provision of 100% authentic organic milk to the community.

It starts from producing 100% organic milk without hormones and other harmful additives at the farms set up in communities. Then establishing their own supply chain till the end user; bypassing the middleman, responsible for adulteration. So a reduced food mile and zero adulteration mean farm fresh original milk for everyone.

When asked by Muhammad Zaki (one of the co-founders), can one company in a small city trigger a change so immense that it affects the whole food industry?

“Yes, our farmer-owned concept has the power to do so. Apart from our flagship farms, the company plans to involve farmers at every level across the country. The plan is to turn every farm into a model farm, obviously owned by the farmer. This will result in empowered farmers, no adulteration, and secured farmlands. Ali Shahid (one of the co-founders) told us about the company’s impact on the environment. “Agrico will be the first Plastic-free business of Pakistan. No plastics at all.”

Milk is the first food we have. No one can deny its importance and its nutritious value. And yes milk is the Superfood that has the power to address the world’s food security issues. So in my point of view, Agricofarms.com  is the future. The company will soon launch its crowdfunding campaign at indiegogo.com. Let’s support them, let’s support our future!
