They say that ‘until one has loved an animal, a part of one’s soul remains unawakened.’

Animal cruelty can take many different forms. It includes overt and intentional acts of triggering towards animals, but it also includes animal neglect or the failure to provide for the welfare of an animal under one’s control. In addition to this, it is important to remember animal cruelty is not restricted to cases involving physical harm. Causing animals psychological harm in the form of distress, torment or pain may also constitute animal ferocity.

Recently, we stumbled upon a piece of news that was circulating over social media on various animal welfare groups where a man from Islamabad neutralized a dog and very proudly shared that on his social media stating that ‘ye kisi ko bohat tung karhy thi’ meaning the dog was annoying someone he admired, as stated in the comments which were later deleted. The name of this man is Mehmood Raja and this outrageous act that he did has caused a stir amongst people.

Animal ferocity is something that has become very common today, whether it’s the ‘kutt’ of a poor donkey in the name of politics and trying to show the opposing party that who’s the boss or 700 dogs being eradicated in Karachi’s with orders of municipal authority. Or even a Saudi prince who went on a hunting spree in Pakistan and bagged 2100 houbara bustards.

There are several ways why one annoys an animal, and these include ‘cherrna’ or ‘maarna’ of an animal, confining or transporting an animal in a way that is inappropriate for its welfare, or cutting short the life of an animal in an inhumane manner, failing to provide appropriate or adequate food or water for an animal, failing to provide appropriate treatment for disease or injury, and failing to provide appropriate living conditions.

It’s insane and inhumane how people bring such audacity to do something like that. Animals need to be protected and loved! Along with endless crimes, animal ferocity now takes place in Pakistan and the worst thing is that NO ONE is being held accountable! Our government needs to understand and take drastic measures against this, we need an animal’s rights organization that serves the purpose and puts an end to this anti-animal charade every now and then.

What would you do if you were asked to take any drastic measure for something like this? There has to be a solution and mentally challenged people like Mehmood Raja needs to be punished as soon as possible!
