You might remember, last year, a little girl had come to social media’s attention after being subjected to harsh and ruthless domestic torture by a judge and his wife. Her name was Tayyaba, and the case got a lot of limelight back then.
Once social media had played its part, the case reached top courts of the country, being set as an example for cases of violence against domestic workers, especially children. Tayyaba was recovered in a beaten and brute condition, with marks on her body and face.

A former judge Raja Khurram A;i and his wife Mehreen Zafar had been nominated as the violent employers of the little child. Reprimanded, the Islamabad High Court has finally given its decision in the case, awarding a sentence of 1 year for both husband and wife, along with penalties of Rs. 50,000 against both as well.
In January, 2017, Tayyaba’s parents reached a compromise and forgave the accused after which Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Mian Saqib Nisar took a suo-motu notice of the compromise agreement and ordered the Islamabad High Court to conduct a free trial against the alleged culprits. The decision has now been accepted, as both husband and wife have received punishments and penalties.

The then 10-year-old Tayyaba was recovered from the judge’s house by a neighbor, who had noticed the little child screaming in pain and torture every single day. He contacted social media influencer Junaid Akram, who played a grande part in the scandal coming out. The judge’s wife was the main culprit in the case, as she was the one who used to inflict punishments on Tayyaba. Thanks to social media and the witnesses, Tayyaba has finally got justice.
This is how social media celebrated the sentence against Khurram Ali Khan and his wife

Higher authorities intervened and recovered Tayyaba and arrested the judge. A year and a half later they got canned today. Thanks to everyone on social media who raised a voice against this and our collective action resulted in jail time of a sitting judge. So rare in Pakistan.
